This provides a rich mix of experiences and cultures which is of benefit to all students.
Dundee was Scottish University of the Year 2004/2005 (Sunday Times) and was ranked top for teaching quality in 2005. The medical and life sciences are 5* rated while the University is home to one of the UK's top art schools, the Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design
Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design was established as part of the Dundee Institute of Art and Technology in 1892 and became an autonomous institution in 1975 before merging with the University of Dundee in 1996. It is regarded as one of the top Colleges of Art and Design in Britain. There are approximately 1000 undergraduate, taught Masters and research postgraduate students. As part of a modern University, students and staff at DJCAD can take advantage of all that a large educational institution has to offer, whilst retaining the special ethos of a Scottish College of Art.
Media Arts & Imaging along with Fine Art and Design form the new partnership of The Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design. The School is part of a new College structure titled, The College of Art, Science & Engineering (CASE). The School of Media Arts & Imaging is a research-led unit cutting across art and design, reflecting and leading significant changes in the way artists and designers use and interact with contemporary media as a means of cultural expression.
The school offers BA (Hons) pathways in Animation, Illustration, and Time Based Art & Digital Film. At the heart of a vibrant contemporary culture are rapidly developing audio visual and interactive technologies and the School strives to keep an ongoing investigation into knowledge and the orientation of the field of Media Arts and Imaging. The convergence of communication and audio-visual technologies is shaping how we understand the world around us. It is this ethos of convergence that continues to focus the development and grouping of research, production and courses within the School.
